Hi,

it seems to me that you are using cygwin-s xwindow system (I could be 
wrong), perhaps try to install Xming:

https://sourceforge.net/projects/xming/

make sure that it's running and before doing anything in cygwin type in 
the terminal:

export DISPLAY=:0

  (you can also add this to your ~/.bashrc to avoid typing it everytime)
