I would like to follow up on this report and give some good news. I found there is a very simple solution to get tcl/tk 8.5.13 and 8.6.1 to work from MacPorts in XCrySDen: just make sure tk installed with variant +x11 rather than the default +quartz, since XCrySDen is using X11. The only problem with the newer tk versions in MacPorts was that +quartz became the default. All variants for tcl were fine for compilation and runnning, using "-DUSE_INTERP_RESULT" in CFLAGS as Tone recommended.

More or less. This indicates that other fixes besides
-DUSE_INTERP_RESULT are needed. I guess that due to backward
incompatibility of Tcl/Tk8.6 with the 8.5 and older versions some code
adjustment will probably be necessary.
