[xcrysden] Query on version 1.4

I am a new user of Quantumespresso. Due to some issues with the linux OS i
use, i can only install the older version of xcrysden (V1.4). I was
wondering if this version is compatible with the QE V4.3.1 because when i
tried to run some tutorials on PWSCF calculations, i can view only the
input files but not the output. In some cases i cannot see the input as
well. The following is the error message i get.

 ERROR: while executing exec sh
 ERROR INFO: Child process exited abnormally
