is it mpxlf90 or mpixf90? the name of the compiler is important
for configure.

for the IBM xlf compiler you should have something like

> FDFLAGS         = -D__AIX,-D__FFTW,-D__USE_INTERNAL_FFTW, -D__MPI,- 
> D__PARA

i.e. with commas instead of spaces.
